Founded on October 14, 1935, at San José State University, Chi Pi Sigma stands as one of the nation’s oldest coeducational professional fraternities dedicated to criminal justice. For nearly 90 years, we have united students who aspire to serve their communities as law enforcement officers, attorneys, federal agents, correctional professionals, and other criminal justice practitioners.
What began as the San Jose College Police School’s first professional fraternity has grown into a lasting institution that continues to shape the leaders of tomorrow’s justice system.
Chi Pi Sigma Inc. empowers the next generation of criminal justice professionals by providing affordable housing, scholarships, and support services that promote academic and professional success.
Affordable Housing We provide safe, affordable, and well-maintained housing for students pursuing criminal justice studies at our historic chapter house located at 230 South 10th Street in San Jose—just steps from the SJSU campus.
Scholarships We award need-based and merit-based scholarships for tuition, books, and related educational expenses, helping reduce financial barriers that can stand between dedicated students and their career goals.
Support Services We offer mentorship, career guidance, networking opportunities, and professional development workshops that prepare members for successful careers in public service.
Community Impact We promote awareness of criminal justice issues and encourage community engagement through student-led initiatives, fostering the service-oriented mindset essential to careers in justice.
“The purpose of this Fraternity shall be to develop a common bond of brotherhood, and to further our educational, professional and social growth.” — Founders, 1935
The Fraternity’s purpose is to teach the value of ethics and instill discipline in order to prepare members for a successful life of public service. We work alongside San José State University’s Justice Studies Department to improve the campus environment and make positive contributions to the local community.
Chi Pi Sigma welcomes all matriculated students interested in criminal justice careers. Eligibility for membership shall not be limited on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, gender, gender identity, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, or disability.
Ready to begin your journey in criminal justice? Whether you’re a prospective student, current member, or alumni looking to reconnect, we’d love to hear from you.
